We are Astronauts!!!

So we promised you more science and here it is! We watched a clip about astronauts carrying out repairs in space.  It looked really tricky because they had huge space suits and very thick gloves and had to do quite intricate jobs.  First we built a lego model, next we put on some woolly gloves and had another go, which made it quite tricky. Then we put on ski gloves, which made it even more difficult. Eventually we put on oven gloves and it got seriously tricky!! Leila then had a go at skipping – she was pretty good. 40 skips in a minute, but when she put on her spacesuit (wellies and a full length puffa coat) she could only manage 10! You should have a go and see for yourselves.

This week is British Science Week and we have been doing lots of science.  We have been learning about food chains and made these animated food chains. This is our first attempt and we do need a bit more practise, but the children wanted to share them with you. Look out for some more science coming soon!

Well, we had another successful maths morning this week.  The children had lots of fun – even our very youngest visitors! Thank you to all those parents who supported us and enjoyed trying out the activities with their children.

We had a lovely time on World Book Day.  We were all in our costumes and we invited Owls Class to come  and share some books with us.  I think they enjoyed it too!

We are looking at animals in Science.  This week we learnt all about food chains. We had to sort out the producers and the consumers. This is what we managed to do.

In PE we are trying different balances. This week we had to try and balance on different numbers of body parts. We think we did quite well. What do you think?

What a busy week Woodpeckers have had – and it’s only Tuesday! Today Don and Catherine came into school to show us how to make toys. We learnt so much about old toys and how to use tools safely. We used drills and hammers; we coloured and sanded our toys before learning how to assemble them using joints and glue. You will be able to see all our toys at our class assembly on Friday 21st November – or before that outside Woodpeckers’ classroom.

We all had a super time on Monday when parents were invited in to help the children with their maths learning. There were lots of different activities out, showing the way we learn maths in Woodpeckers’ Class. We balanced, we measured, we coloured, we constructed and we designed; all with the help of Mums, Dads and younger siblings.  A great morning was had by all.
