Hello and welcome to Woodpeckers’ first post of the new school year. It is great to see the children all settled and grown up in KS1! Last week we started our science topic of Climate Change. We learnt about the ‘Greenhouse Effect’ and did an experiment to test it. Our first challenge was to work together to build a house of bricks or lego in a tray. Then we put an ice cube in the tray. Some of us covered the tray with cling film to mimic greenhouse gasses, some of us left ours open. We all put our trays outside in the sunshine. We discovered that the ice cubes in the trays covered in cling film melted quite a while before the uncovered ones. We know this is because the cling film, like the layer of greenhouse gasses, lets the sun’s rays through, but doesn’t let the heat out. We had a great time with our learning! What do you think?
